A beloved charity event, City2Lake will make a triumphant return on March 13, with registration now open to participants for the annual race. Raising funds for Griffith Can Assist, participants have the option to walk, run or cycle eight kilometers from the Jubilee Oval to the Lake Wyangan Picnic Area. All funds raised from City2Lake are strictly used for local cancer patients, with all money raised remaining with Griffith. In 2020 the event had over 1000 individual registrations, a number of City2Lake committee members are keen to see that double, especially after the 2021 event had to be canceled due to ongoing coronavirus concerns. RELATED || City2Lake fun run returns for 2022 City2lake committee member Cheryle Wood said it was “great” to have a community event back after two years of pandemic-related cancellations and postponements. “We are very excited to be hosting this wonderful community event again and will ensure that it remains as COVID friendly as possible,” Ms. Wood said. This will lead to a change in start times, with runners starting at 8am, experienced runners starting at 8.10am and casual joggers and walkers starting the course at 8.20am to allow for staggered start and finish times and to avoid singing on the course. “The ball is really rolling now, and with just over a month to go, we’ve seen a great start with community members signing up to participate,” Ms Wood said. General manager Leon Skaliotis said the fun run was a “win, win”, boosting staff morale, health and productivity while contributing funds to support those battling cancer in the local community. “We encourage other local businesses to follow our lead and support a great local cause,” Skaliotis said. I2R is also sponsoring the event, matching its staff registration fees with an additional donation to Can Assist. According to Ms Wood, it was fantastic to see local companies like Flavourtech and I2R encouraging their staff to sign up. “We are still looking for sponsors, there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved with City2Lake,” Ms Wood said. “But those interested should contact us by Friday February 11, as everything will be finalized next week.” To register for the City2Lake Fun Run, please click here, community support is crucial to keep Can Assist Griffith viable and ongoing.
