Crenshaw booed after tense interaction with young girl at event

After a year punctuated by public clashes with disparate elements of the electoral base and conservative leaders, Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw again found himself the target of criticism following a tense exchange with a young participant at a takeover event speak Monday evening.

Video of the incident was posted to Twitter by conservative personality Seth Weathers. Footage shows the 37-year-old former Navy SEAL at a Montgomery County Tea Party meeting on Monday evening, responding sharply to a young girl during remarks after receiving quotes from earlier comments that he had made on the Jocko Podcast in March 2020. The video begins with the girl quoting remarks made by Crenshaw in which the congressman apparently compared Jesus to a fictional character.

“To anyone who hasn’t heard,” she said. “Crenshaw said, ‘The most important thing here is that we have important hero archetypes that we look up to. Jesus is an archetypal hero. Superman is an archetypal hero. Real characters too. I could name a thousand: Rosa Parks, Ronald Reagan.’ End of quote.”

“I can’t understand that,” she concluded.

“Well, let me help you,” Crenshaw replied. “Put a period after the word ‘Jesus’ and don’t question my faith.”

Crenshaw’s response drew boos from the crowd and a loud “Wow” from an onlooker.

“You’re talking to a little girl!” someone shouts. “You can’t talk to a child like that.”

“Don’t question my faith,” Crenshaw repeats. “You can ask questions about all these things, but don’t question my faith.”

“That’s what you said,” replies the young speaker.

“You can read the quote again,” Crenshaw says. “Nowhere in this quote do I say ‘Jesus is not real.’ It’s a ridiculous statement.”

Crenshaw continues to accuse him of “twisting” his words and positioning his actions as “not very Christian”. Although Twitter is descending on Crenshaw for being “belonging” to a 10-year-old girl, social media user @teet_yourself pointed out that the individual quoting Crenshaw in the video appears to be an 18-year-old volunteer for Jameson Ellis, the one of the Crenshaws. political opponents.

The incident is the latest in a series of public incidents involving the second-term Republican congressman.

At a fundraising event in August 2021, Crenshaw found himself heckled by Bobby Piton, a Republican Senate candidate from Illinois, who objected to the congressman saying he didn’t believe that the 2020 presidential election had been stolen.

“Don’t fool yourself into thinking that’s why we lost,” Crenshaw told attendees at a GOP fundraising function in Rosemont, Ill., when asked if he believed that the election had been stolen by the Democrats. “It’s not. I’ll tell you openly.”

“You are wrong!” Piton shouted. “I have proof.”

Crenshaw has also butted heads on social media with rising Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) in recent weeks, culminating with the Texas congresswoman calling Greene a “Democrat — or just an idiot.” in an Instagram story. The two began to feud after a December FOX News appearance by Crenshaw in which he approved Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) support for COVID-19 testing in the United States.

On January 2, Greene posted an image of Crenshaw’s FOX appearance on Instagram and accused Crenshaw of “hurting” the conservative “brand”.

Greene concluded by stating that Crenshaw should “stop calling himself a conservative”.
