Event organizer holds first trade fair for vendors and craftsmen since March

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) — Many events have been canceled due to the pandemic, but there’s one type of show that’s starting to make a comeback.

“A lot of people were ready to get back on board,” Kim Nackers said.

Nackers is an event planner through her company N.Event. She hosted a “Beat the Heat Craft and Vendor Show” at the Green Bay Distillery on Sunday.

“It’s actually our first comeback since March,” Nackers said.

Due to the pandemic, some Nackers shows had to be canceled, including one scheduled at the Brown County Fairgrounds that would have been his biggest show of the year.

Show cancellations have also hurt the business of artists and artisans themselves.

“Some of these salespeople, that’s what they do for a living,” Nackers said. Some it’s just a hobby, some do it as a second income, but some depend on the income that comes from these shows.

“I’ve lost a lot of shows. I’m usually booked all summer and they always cancel in September and October,” said Darcie Klump, owner of Darcie’s Crafts.

That’s why artisans like Klump and Brianna Juern were relieved to do it again this weekend.

“It was actually my first event,” said Juern, owner creative karma. “All my events have been canceled this year, so I’m very grateful to Kim and all the work she’s done, also to keep these events going because a lot of artisans, that’s how we get our name out there.

“It’s really good to get the products out and keep going,” Klump said.

Nackers and vendors are keeping health safety in mind for these events, which guests have complied with.

“They follow the directional flow of traffic, we have everything planned out, we have hand sanitizer stations,” Nackers said.

“I think it went really well actually,” Juern said. “We have a lot of space and even the guests and that too, we are quite far away. I have hand sanitizer if anyone needs it.

Nackers plans to keep these types of precautions in place for as long as needed.

“So we can keep the shows going if that’s what we have to do, that’s what we will do,” Nackers said.
