Nonprofits encouraged to register for Boscov’s 26th Annual Friends Helping Friends Event

Boscov’s has opened registration to nonprofits interested in participating in its annual Friends Helping Friends fundraising event. The 26th annual event is scheduled for October 19.

501(c) and 170(c)(1) nonprofit organizations can register to participate in the event by visiting the Friends Helping Friends website, www.boscovs.com/friendshelpingfriends, to complete the registration form and request passes for Friends helping Friends customers. Organizations can then sell these $5 passes to their supporters, keeping 100% of the $5 donation.

Customers will then redeem their $5 shopping pass at the one-day in-store event on October 19, which will offer those customers 25% off the lowest sale prices in the chain.

“Each year, more than 3,000 nonprofits participate in this event and raise more than $1 million in donations,” Jim Boscov, president and CEO, said in a statement. “This is our most aggressive promotion of the year, and we’re doing it to encourage donations to organizations so essential to the communities we serve.”

In a video posted on Boscov’s Friends Helping Friends website, Boscov said the company is planning the biggest such sale ever.

“Supporting local nonprofits has always been a core value of our family. And never have our communities needed more support than they do today,” he said in the video.

Last year, Boscov’s provided nonprofit partners with more than $2 million worth of shopping passes. The goal this year, according to Jacob Stein, a Boscov’s spokesperson, is to beat that number.

In 2020, as most in-person events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Boscov created a hybrid model for the event, with in-store and online components, according to Stein.

“Given the unique circumstances that challenged us all that year, we viewed it as a great victory for our community partners who desperately needed help in 2020,” he said in a response by e-mail with questions. In 2021, the event returned to in-store only, which continues this year.

Boscov’s is headquartered in Berks County and operates 49 stores in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Ohio. For more information, visit www.boscovs.com.
