REHOBOTH BEACH — Since its opening in March 2021, Ocean View Brewery won accolades for its twist on beach favorites such as fried green tomatoes with pizza toppings and fried lobster tail with glazed donuts.
The Delaware brewery recently received a gold medal at the 11th Annual New York International Beer Competition.
The winning entry, Got Waves, is a Kolsch-style beer. “It’s a crisp, clean beer that’s perfect for beach activities,” Taylor Smith, who oversees brewing operations, said in a statement.
Ocean View Brewing Company and his older brother, Thompson Island Brewery in nearby Rehoboth Beach, belong to SoDel Conceptsa hotel group with 16 restaurants on the Delaware coast.
“I’m so proud of our ‘brewing team’ at both restaurants,” said Jimmy Valm, who manages brewing operations at the breweries. “Their creativity, skill and passion for brewing has given us a remarkable reputation in a relatively short time.”
Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts, agrees. “We are known for brewing high quality, world class beers,” he said. “To see a gold medal for Ocean View Brewing Company so soon after opening confirms that we are succeeding.”
