Mr. Dennis Tawiah, Managing Director of Akwaabauk, a renowned Ghanaian international events company, said they would support the government’s efforts to attract more tourists to Ghana.
Earlier on Monday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the “Destination Ghana” campaign aimed at attracting one million tourists to Ghana each year from the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.
The campaign, which is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Ghana High Commission in the UK and the Ghana Tourism Authority, aimed to build on the success of the campaign “ Year of Return” from Ghana which has attracted many tourists to Ghana.
According to Mr. Tawiah, his outfit was determined to support the government’s agenda by highlighting the vast tourist attractions and investment opportunities in Ghana.
“The government’s plan is to promote tourism in Ghana and make Ghana the first country in Africa to visit and we are determined to support the government to make this a reality.
“Ghana has a rich cultural heritage and has earned a reputation as the place to do business in Africa and also have nice breaks, especially in December when we run some programs.
“Our ‘December in Ghana’ programs demonstrate our commitment to making Ghana a tourist destination and this initiative would further encourage us to do more in view of the target of one million tourists a year,” he said.
The launch of “Destination Ghana” was attended by Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Ghana Tourism Authority CEO, Mr. Akwasi Agyemang and Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Mr. Papa Owusu Ankoma, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Mrs. Harriet Thompson and other key speakers from government and the private sector.
