The organizer hopes that the national team will join the next international youth championship

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The organizer of the international youth football tournament, International Youth Championship (IYC), hopes that the Indonesian national team can join the next IYC in 2022 or 2023.

“We really hope that the PSSI can send the national team to participate in the IYC,” IYC competition director Tigorshalom Boboy told a press conference at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS ), on Friday, April 15.

According to Tigorshalom, the IYC will definitely communicate with the IYC if they need to organize competitions.

In 2019, he continued, when the IYC was held in Bali and three European teams joined the event, namely Real Madrid U18, Inter Milan U19 and Arsenal U18, the organizer had contacted PSSI but the Indonesian team could not join the competition due to broadcast rights issues.

During IYC 2021, PSSI was also contacted by the organizer but the U19 national team was in South Korea to undergo a training camp (TC) for the U20 World Cup 2023.

“Nevertheless, we are grateful for the support from PSSI in the form of match kit awards,” Tigorshalom said.

Meanwhile, the chief organizer of the IYC, who is also the chairman of the Pancoran Football Ground (PSF), I Gede Widiade, said that the IYC could be used by the PSSI to measure readiness. of the national team, because the IYC is made up of young teams from well-known Europe. clubs.

In 2019, Inter Milan, Arsenal and Real Madrid joined the event, while in 2021 Barcelona and Atletico Madrid took part.

“So as a benchmark for the national team to participate in some tournaments, I think the IYC is very good and positive,” Gede said.
