AFTER a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the Ringwood Pedal Car Grand Prix will return this year, it has been revealed.
More than 40 racing outfits will compete on Sunday July 10, the event’s Facebook page confirmed, adding: “After a two-year Covid-enforced hiatus, the British Pedal Car Grand Prix will return to central London. town of Ringwood this summer!”
Organized by a team of volunteers including members of Ringwood & District Round Table, it was first held in 1987 and quickly became a fixture on the local events calendar.
It attracts thousands of spectators and sees the teams pedaling on a one kilometer long track. They raise money for charity, with the winner being the team that completes the most laps in two hours.
The pedal car race was an annual event, held alternately by Ringwood and New Milton. But New Milton announced in 2019 that it would be shutting down due to financial implications, although efforts are underway to revive it.
The organizers added: “Registration for the races will open soon, but we encourage businesses, clubs and local societies to build their pedal racers!
“We would also like to invite any local businesses who wish to support the event by becoming sponsors to contact us to discuss the opportunities available.”
