Victoria carpet cleaning company floored by incoming donations for Ukrainians – Saanich News

Victorian carpet cleaning company, Luv-A-Rug Services Inc., is once again giving back to the community.

Luv-A-Rug accepts donated rugs, cleans them and donates them to charities that raise funds for Ukrainian humanitarian aid through events such as garage sales and auctions.

“If we have to work all night for charity rugs, then that’s fine,” said Stephen ‘Dusty’ Roberts, president and team leader at Luv-A-Rug. “It’s a small thing to do compared to what Ukrainians are going through.”

The company previously had a carpet donation program in place, after Roberts noticed a trend: people came to clean a carpet they were getting rid of, due to upsizing, downsizing or redecorating. .

Roberts decided to create a program where he wouldn’t charge for cleaning, but instead would accept the rugs and pass them on to the community. Past recipients include thrift stores Women in Need (WIN) and Habitat for Humanity, but currently all rugs are for Ukrainian efforts.

“We have specialized carpet equipment,” Roberts said. “After a cleaning, they look like new.”

On average, Luv-A-Rug sees 50-60 rugs per month, with values ranging from $80 to $2,000, and donations are growing.

“Right now we are working seven days a week and staying late. We would like to do more, but frankly, we are at our wit’s end.

Roberts said her love for charity was sparked by her father and carpet cleaning founder Gordon Roberts.

“My dad taught me that when things are going well, be generous and give back,” he said. “I hope this inspires other small businesses to ask themselves what they can do to give back too.”

Anyone interested in donating a rug can drop it off at Luv-A-Rug at 445 Beta St. in Victoria. Anyone organizing a fundraising event for Ukrainian relief efforts who could use a mat can contact Roberts directly at 778-533-7847.
